External Consultant, Research Assistant, and Work-study Student – “Digital Twin for Hanoi Transportation” Project

Location: Center for Environmental Intelligence (CEI), VinUniversity – Hanoi

Contract Type: Service contract

Role Description:

The “Digital Twin for Hanoi Transportation” project will enable the potential for developing a suite of transportation policies and incentives to encourage shifts to sustainable transportation modes, such as electric vehicles, transit, and ridesharing, to reduce emissions of air pollutants and traffic congestion.  We are currently expanding our team and have several open positions:

1. External Consultant

Quantity: 01

Employment Type: Full-Time

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight and guidance to VinUni undergraduate student research groups, ensuring coordination, mentorship, and progress tracking for successful outcomes.
  • Conduct in-depth reviews and analysis of existing research related to Digital Twin (DT) technology.
  • Gather high-quality, real-world data to support simulation efforts, including data labeling for model development.
  • Process data, analyze Hanoi city’s current traffic and socio-economic status, and provide general recommendations.
  • Collaborate with modeling experts to propose scenarios for Hanoi traffic.
  • Participate in team meetings, workshops, and conferences as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator (PI).

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Information Technology, Computer Science, Transportation, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of digital twin technology.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python, and familiarity with simulation tools (e.g., GAMA).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong team management and communication skills.
  • Experience in academic research is a plus.

2. Research Assistant

Quantity: 04

Employment Type: Full-Time

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and support VinUni undergraduate student research groups by coordinating, guiding, and monitoring their progress.
  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of existing research on Digital Twin (DT) technology.
  • Collect reliable real-world data for simulation purposes and perform data labeling to support the development of simulation models.
  • Develop and train Digital Twin (DT) models for mix air/flooding traffic systems and smart EV charging stations.
  • Analyze results and prepare reports for internal use and external dissemination, including research publications.
  • Collaborate with PhD students, postdocs, and senior researchers to achieve project milestones.
  • Participate in team meetings, workshops, and conferences as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator (PI).

Qualifications:

  • Major in Mathematics, Information Technology, Computer Science, Transportation, Water Resources Management or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of digital twin technology.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python, and familiarity with simulation tools (e.g., GAMA, MIKE,…).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong team management and communication skills.
  • Experience in academic research is a plus.

3. Work-study Student

Employment Type: Part-Time

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in collecting data from traffic cameras, sensors, and intelligent traffic systems.
  • Analyze traffic data to identify patterns and trends in different areas of Hanoi.
  • Participate in creating the transportation simulation model for Hanoi using Digital Twin technology.
  • Update and maintain the real-time traffic simulation model by integrating sensor data and other systems.
  • Use data analysis tools and modeling to explore optimal traffic solutions.
  • Propose measures to reduce congestion and improve traffic efficiency on Hanoi’s road networks.
  • Assist in developing applications that help the public and authorities monitor and manage traffic situations through Digital Twin tools.
  • Design user-friendly interfaces to access and utilize traffic data easily.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the team leader and PI.

Qualifications:

  • Students in their second year or higher at technical universities. Preference will be given to VinUniversity students.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and process traffic data using tools like Excel or Python.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills for effective teamwork and presenting findings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Experience in academic research is a plus.
