Prof. Laurent El Ghaoui from VinUniversity delivered an invited lecture titled “Finding Environmentally-friendly Chemical Synthesis with AI and High-throughput Robotics” at the “Materials Informatics: Accelerating Materials Research and Design with Artificial Intelligence” in Quy Nhon, Vietnam.
As part of the Plenary Section B: Basic Infrastructures (Data, Algorithms, Software, Robotics, & Autonomy), his talk addressed the challenges and progress in using AI and high-throughput robotics to discover sustainable chemical synthesis methods. Prof. Laurent highlighted the complexity of extracting structured information from unstructured scientific literature, a crucial step in building databases that guide synthesis processes. Despite current AI limitations, such as poor generalization to new data, Prof. Laurent emphasized the transformative potential of AI when combined with robotics, enabling rapid testing and optimization of chemical reactions. He advocated for a balanced approach that integrates traditional scientific methods with advanced AI techniques to achieve impactful results in materials science and sustainability.
