Abstract:
In this talk, Dr. Thang Luong will share his personal journey in mathematics and AI, highlighting how he built the Superhuman Reasoning team at Google and the New Turing Institute (formerly VietAI) in Vietnam. He will provide insights into the evolution of AI and offer his perspective on its future, bridging both technical and visionary elements.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Thang Luong is a Senior Staff Research Scientist and Senior Manager at Google DeepMind, formerly Google Brain. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from Stanford University in 2016 and is known for his groundbreaking work in deep learning for machine translation. Dr. Luong has been instrumental in developing state-of-the-art models in language and vision, including ELECTRA and NoisyStudent. He co-founded Project Meena, the precursor to Google LaMDA, and currently co-leads the development of Bard Multimodality. His latest accomplishment includes leading the Superhuman Reasoning team at Google, which built the first AI to achieve Silver medalist level at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2024.
